RRC & YRC

Red Ribbon Club (RRC) programme is a voluntary on – campus intervention, aimed at heightening the risk perception and preventing HIV among youth. RRCs have become a powerful medium to reach out to young people. Spearheaded by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS), this programme is duly supported by the Department of Higher Education and Department of Technical Education with the technical assistance from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP). Atlanta demonstrating the importance of inter-sector collaboration to address the issue of HIV/AIDS. RRCs empower students in the age group of 17 – 25, by giving them information and life-skills to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and changing the most active among into peer educators.

To make HIV/AIDS free India by creating awareness about the spread and cause of HIV/AIDS among the student youth , non-student youth and public. To induce among youth the spirit to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) thereby reducing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS. To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills on leadership, negotiation and team building. To promote voluntary non- remunerated blood donation among youth.

The red ribbon is a symbol for drunk driving prevention, drug prevention, Blood disorders such as HELLP Syndrome and for the fight against AIDS. The Red Ribbon Foundation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are examples of organizations that utilize the red ribbon symbol. MADD is an organization founded in 1980 whose mission is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. Red Ribbon International is an organization founded in 1993 whose main purpose is the education about prevention of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Related Complex, ARC and AIDS.
